Hostels on the Bozburun Peninsula Turkey

In Turkey, and especially on the protected Bozburun Peninsula you will find a very wide range of accommodation to suit all tastes and available budgets for your holidays. In Turkey the nearest thing to a British Bed and Breakfast house is called a Pansion. These establishments are very popular with Turkish tourists sp traditionally are very busy in the summer months. You will find large number of families leave Istanbul for the long drive south, staying often for many weeks in Pansions. They normally offer simple accommodation with optional food. Some of the larger Pansions have turned into restaurants in their own right and some even have private swimming pools if they are not near the sea.

Pansions are normally family run enterprises, often combined with other activities like restaurants, beach activities and yacht cruises. Turkish Pansions are the most similar to traditional British Hostels loved by many Europeans travelling on a budget.

In Orhaniye on the Bozburun Peninsula you will find a number of these establishments where often the wife and daughters run the accommodation, whilst the dad and the sons have a traditional wooden Gulet (yacht) berthed outside. These gulets are all hand made using old fashioned traditions, the main centres for yacht building are Bozburun and Selimiye.   Staying in a Turkish Pansion and sailing to the local bays on the owner’s yacht is a fabulous way to spend a holiday and experience first hand Turkish language and culture. You will find the Turks in the villages are very kind and hospitable to foreigners.  It is part of Turkish culture that they pride themselves on the welcome they give to strangers from outside the village.
